Midnight  Kaleidoscope

Midnight Kaleidoscope, acrylic on canvas, 42 cm X 30 cm

Some days in the studio, the palette knife just takes the wheel, and this piece was absolute, joyful chaos from the very first stroke!

I started with that chunky, ornate blue-and-white urn—I love the grounding, classic feel of porcelain—but once the flowers started blooming, all the rules went straight out the window. I didn’t want polite, delicate petals; I wanted an explosion. I loaded the knife with buttery mounds of hot coral, sunny cadmium yellow, wild pinks, and dashes of cool cornflower blue, sculpting and flicking the paint right onto the canvas. You can practically feel the wet paint flying—I even left the wild splatters and rogue drips because that’s where the magic lives!

To me, flowers shouldn’t look like they’re frozen in time; they should buzz with energy, tumble over the edges, and refuse to sit still. Every thick ridge of paint catches the light differently as you walk past it, and working on it was a pure rush of color and instinct.
