Summer explosion

This is a large canvas – 110cm X 90 cm done in acrylic on canvas. I have used a number of tools to create various effects. The goblet is filled with Narcissus, yellow broom flowers and delphiniums

The background was painted (or should I say applied) with a large palette knife. For the paint splatter I used a splatter brush. A tool that looks a lot like a brush, but rather than acrylic bristles, it has long narrow plastic rods that you dip in paint and then “splash” onto your canvas (can be seen in the illustration below together with the pastry brush). You can manipulate the splatter by thinning or thickening the paint you splatter, and how you direct the tool to “splatter” your canvas. And lastly I used a silicone pastry brush to “scribble” on paint to give an impression of blue delphiniums.
