A larger format which I prefer working in allows me the opportunity to use broader brushes and silicone blades as well as a variety of larger palette knives.
When painting flowers I tend to use a permanent rose ground colour. I particularly love how this bright pink red is muted when covered, but still creates depth and intensity to the layers of paint that follow. The colours in this painting tend to be softer and more muted with shades of blue. The custom mixed black when mixed with white gives a subtle mauve grey.
My custom black mix can be found here: https://artbyeileen.co.za/2021/08/06/custom-black/
An addition of burnt umber gives depth to the shadows and reflections. The leaves are painted in a custom chrome green mix, and the roses are shades of white built up by a palette knife.
