Delphiniums are showy, spiky blooms on a tall, sometimes towering stem. These beautiful slightly old fashioned cottage garden flowers bring unrivalled height and colour to summer gardens with their showy spikes of vibrant flowers. The most common colours are shades of blue or purple which are filling this bucket.

Initially I applied a gel medium to the background to give a light texture to the canvas.

I used the silicone blade to apply paint to the gel textured areas, which was not successful. All the paint did was slide off the gel base. I then tried a brush which was far more effective. The paint on the bucket did not have any gel on it so I was able to use the silicone blade and silicone colour shaper with great success as the paint adhered directly to the canvas platform.

Once the background and bucket had been mapped out, the darker shadow areas, and brighter blue splashes of colour were laid down to be followed with the different shades of blue and white and lilac, and finally a few splashes of green for the leaves, and bizmuth yellow for the flower centres.
