2 Spanish Dancers

While waiting for the canvas to be custom made I squeezed in some more Spanish dancers.  These 2 are commissions inspired by my prep work, but at the same time very good preparation for the original commission i am waiting on the canvas for.  One thing I am going to have to get my head around is the volume of paint I am going to need.  I never quite managed to pre mix enough paint for these works.  It is not the end of the world, but not always easy to mix the exact colour when you run out!  I need to remember that when painting a dancer on a 130 X 110 cm canvas, especially when using a palette knife to apply thick impasto paint!

One dancer is based on the prototype I was working on, but with a very different background and colours in the dress. The focus here is on the dress which feels like its on fire rather than the dancer and the movement of the Flamenco…

The 2nd dancer is more dramatic in her movement with the twisted body, head, hair and the dress, and arms following the movement of her body.  The colours in this are also darker, and probably closer to the colour scheme of the large commission.
