The King Protea – one of my favourite proteas from the protea family. It is widely distributed in the southwestern and southern parts of South Africa in the fynbos region and looks so striking in flower arrangements, or in the garden.  My father was a horticulturist and grew many species of protea in our garden. Most of all I remember walking up table mountain with my brother and parents and seeing these beautiful plants flowering in the wild on the slopes of table mountain.  Very happy childhood memories indeed!
